Homeless man’s body found dumped in quiet Irish village after frenzied attack

A MAN who recently became homeless was stabbed dozens of times in a fatal knife attack before being dumped, gardaí have said.

Michal Kurek, 34, originally from Poland, was found dead by the side of a road in Grange, Ballyboughal, Co. Dublin on Friday, August 4.

Police have described the isolated area where Mr Kurek’s body was discovered as ‘quiet’ and added that it is not covered by CCTV.

Mr Kurek’s killing remains unsolved and gardaí are now seeking the public’s assistance in a bid to help solve the crime.

Superintendent Noel Carolan said: "The area where Michal’s body was discovered is otherwise a generally very quiet, peaceful rural community.

“Michal was homeless during recent months and is known to have spent time in the Blanchardstown/Ongar area and in Dublin City Centre.

“A Garda Family Liaison Officer is engaged with members of Michael’s family in Poland to provide support and inform the family of the progress of the investigation.”

Supt Carolan continued: "Garda resources are not being spared in this investigation and several hundred lines of enquiry are being examined.

“We have received massive assistance from the public as well as very valuable information from the local community, the Polish community and the homeless community.

“However, we are still appealing for anyone with information to come forward.”

Mr Kurek had been living in Ireland for a number of years prior to his death.

Anyone who knew Mr Kurek, in particular anyone who met him or knew of his movements on August 3 or August 4, is asked to contact Balbriggan Garda Station on 01-8020510.

Calls can also be made to the Garda Confidential Line on 1800-666-111.
