Packie the jet-setting bear: Meet the globetrotting Irish teddy in a Leitrim jersey who's taking the internet by storm

GIVING Paddington a run for his monry, Leitrim bear Packie has taken the internet by storm with his globetrotting adventures.

Packie, named after 1950s Gaelic footballer from Leitrim Packy McGarty, has travelled for the last four years across 51 countries on six continents in a Leitrim jersey with travelling companion and fellow Leitrim man, Fergal Howard.

"Packie was given to me as a gift from a friend before I left Ireland and moved to New Zealand," Fergal, 27, told The Irish Post. "I did a little travelling around NZ and took a few pics of Packie and thought it would be nice to take pics of him wherever I went."

Since then, the pair have been to South America, New Zealand, Australia, Namibia, Cape Verde, Morocco, most of Europe, America, Canada and Asia.

As Fergal works on a ship called The World, the travelling twosome have been able to travel freely.

As for which place is Packie's favourite?

"Other than Ireland, it would probably be New Zealand or Colombia," Fergal says. "But there are so many good places."

"Next, we are going to Australia for a month, including going to Sydney for New Years, and then down to Antartica."
