Federation of Irish Societies launch Ireland Inspires campaign

Ireland Inspires, a campaign to raise the profile of the contribution of Irish arts, sports and heritage to Britain, launches this week.

With the eyes of the world on Britain for London 2012 the Federation of Irish Societies is looking to ensure the Irish community takes it place on the cultural stage as a key contributor to the diversity of the cultural and sporting scene in Britain.

A website has been launched at www.irelandinspires.me.uk and people can now sign up to find out more as the campaign develops.

Further details such as downloadable logos, twibbons, events information and blogs from the Irish individuals will be available on the site from Friday, March 16.

Across Britain the campaign will look to raise awareness about Irish arts, sports and heritage, profile the emerging contribution of young Irish creative and sporting talent working in Britain, provide a national platform for the promotion and recognition of Irish cultural work and highlight the opportunities for cultural and sporting organisations to engage with Irish audiences.

The campaign is aiming to engage Irish community organisations, businesses and individuals ensuring that everyone gets behind the celebration.

Chief Executive of the Federation of Irish Societies Jennie McShannon said: “It is through culture, in the broadest sense encompassing arts, sports and heritage that people are empowered and communities are strengthened.

“Ireland Inspires is about harnessing the outstanding activity already taking place whilst creating an opportunity to celebrate and develop the Irish contribution to the diverse cultural landscape of British life.

“The Federation of Irish Societies’ Cultural Strategy sets out a commitment and future ambition for nurturing, promoting and safe-guarding the Irish cultural offer in Britain. Ireland Inspires is a long term approach and is a concept to be owned and delivered by the Irish community in Britain.

“As the national representative body for the Irish in Britain we are here to facilitate, connect and enable growth, participation and engagement across Irish arts, sports and heritage.”

Ireland Inspires is initially a year-long campaign by the Federation of Irish Societies based on their four-year cultural strategy launched in November 2011.
