Four Ireland fans plan 500km charitable cycle to France for Euro 2016

FOUR Irish football fans are planning a unique journey to this summer’s Euro 2016 tournament, and all for a good cause.

Cormac O’ Keeffe, Tom Fox, Jonny Lane and James O’ Dwyer intend on cycling the 500km journey from Dublin to Paris in just five days to raise much-needed funds for three Irish Charities – Aware, Irish Cancer Society & Debra Ireland.

The lads – who come from three different counties, namely Cork, Kildare and Tipperary – were always planning on heading to France for the tournament, but each were eager to do so in a ‘special’ way, setting themselves a target of €10,000.

“It’s a big undertaking but we are all huge football fans who were planning to attend the Euros, but wanted to combine it with something special to show our support for these charities," said Cormac O’Keeffe.

“As a group we choose these charities as they are close to our hearts and we are hugely passionate about the work they do around mental health, cancer research and supporting families who have children with EB. All the money we raise will go directly to our chosen charities as we are funding our trip entirely ourselves,” he added.

Their mission statement reads: “On Tuesday 7th of June, we start our cycle from Dublin to Rosslare where we will board the ship, Stena Horizon, arriving in Cherbourg late Wednesday evening. We will then cycle from Cherbourg to Bayeux to Eveux finishing our trip in Paris.”

So far, they have raised almost €2,000, but with over 100 days left before they set off, there’s still plenty of time to hit their target.
