JONATHAN Rhys Meyers is to shoot the second series of hit TV show Dracula.

The Irish heartthrob reportedly confirmed that a new season of the show, which he also co-produces, had been commissioned.  Rhys Meyer unveiled the news at a party thrown by actress Goldie Hawn in London.

Dracula features a strong Irish cast with Katie McGrath from Bray and Dublin native Victoria Smurfit, who now resides in Los Angeles. Smurfit plays the fashion forward vampire slayer, Lady Jayne Wetherby.

Meyers is also set to play the late punk singer Joe Strummer in a film about The Clash, with filming due to get underway later this year.

    Dear J.,
After the endless waits for Dracula season 2, with a very shortly wrapped up season 1,it is requested that you take up films featuring you in strong lead roles with promising story lines. For example at least check out the movie picturing Richard Chamberlain as " overly ambitious Father Ralph" of Thorn Birds, you might win an award even, with your incredibly strong personality having an aura of a puritan ethic and soulful stare imbibing gentleness and compassion... definitely a young "Magie" could fall for you.
Meanwhile wish you all the best for season 2.
P.S take the girl in the end. Reason why your good movies fail to make an impact is because of the dismal ending as in "Tangled", "Octane" "Emperors wife" etc... we sympathize with Dracula not Harker who got a lot darker!

    • Sarae

Oh please no! One 'The Thorn Birds' was too many!

That's all we need :( Nothing against JRM - BUT - Dracula was NOT an American Businessman!!!! Bram Stoker CREATED Dracula in his original novel and NBC Dracula is NOTHING remotely like the character this genius gave life to. It should NOT have been called Dracula - instead it should have had another title. But then again - if JRM played the Sugar Plum Fairy everyone would say it was brilliant. This show was dire, sorry. Round two - no thank you. I'd rather have toothache!

If you don't like it then don't watch it. Obviously you have no taste in good shows. No one cares what it should or shouldn't have been called. It's a brilliant show and deserves many more seasons.

      • Sarae

Attack the post, not the poster! 'Obviously have poor taste'! - what a thing to say! It's just a different taste! Personally I feel that 'Dracula' has reached the point in popular culture that Shakespeare and other frequently performed stories have - it's up for reinterpretation, and I felt it was a very interesting reinterpretation that would have had those who know the original well guessing, rather than watching it knowing what's going to happen in the end - because we don't. The same for 'Frankenstein' - there was a fascinating version starring James Nesbitt a few years ago.

This story is supposed to take place after the novel ended, after Dracula was staked and laid to rest. He's not an American businessman. He's pretending to be one. After VonHelsing woke Dracula, they traveled to America to create the back story that Dracula needed to get into the circles that they needed him to move in, in England. They use the names of characters from the original novel, but it's a whole new story. I enjoy it for what it is. A separate story about Dracula in another time frame and a whole new set of characters that use names found in the original work.

    • Mae

He's posing as an American businessman.

Conversely, Bram Stoker can't be fully accredited with the creation of Dracula. Stoker heavily based the titular character on Vlad Tepes; he even took his name - Dracula, which was Vlad Tepes' given patronym.

Dont ruin it for all of the fans.......:(

I love Dracula and waiting for the new season!!
I'm not always into series but this one is different.
Me and my family are waiting for season 2.

    • meg

Me to! My family have been waiting for ages! We have watched season 1 constantly since the second one got 'cancelled'

  9. EJ

I cannot understand that reality garbage shows and that horrible show CSI Miami stay on year after year, when a good quality show comes along it gets dropped. Keep dumbing down the viewer with another zombie teen show. This is sad.

  10. Phyllis

Hi, i love dracula and I would love it if you would put season 2 ...... Can you please do that...... It would make me happy

    • meg

It would make all the dracula fans more than happy :)

  17. alex

Rumors in july 2014 suggested that another network would pick up Dracula for at least a second season. On the 15th october 2014 Netflix offically announced they would be picking up the show for at least a second season.

  18. nikki1763

I am also waiting for season 2 it was an amazing show so is it going to continue or not?????

  19. LaToya Dennis

Congrats on your engagement and hopefully you will be back on American television. You're a talented actor, I love your work

  20. Ryan UK

Not happy with the cancellation. Like most 'in between series' I waited patiently until the adverts revealed it was coming back on.
After reading that fake blog from EmpireNews, I was overjoyed, now just plain angry and resentful.

Jonny, I hope you can somehow circle back to this character once someone with enough money and sense realises the potential. Until then, don't do anymore bend it like beckham esc movies!

  21. Yvonne

Just finished watching season 1....and am in total bliss. The themes and everything are done to the finest degree. I can't say how long it has bee that I have had a crush, but I'd I weren't happily married I should like to have a love affair with Vladimir. Bring on more of this calibre please!

  22. caroline

i love this drama series when is the next one out hes an amazing actor and would love to meet this man in real life let alone on tv

  23. Carolyn

Omg ! Can't wait for dracular season two . Love you ! Have all your movies . Great actor .

  24. Dawn

I loved Dracula and I wish it was back on t.v, Dracula has action and talented actors and a really good love story, Was waiting for season 2 but NBC didn't give Dracula a chance, They renewed Hannibal and Not Dracula, And Dracula had higher ratings than Hannibal, nobody wants to watch that show. Bring our Dracula back n

  25. Jonathan Mayorov

This show was by far the best tv show I've seen in a long while. Please sing the petition! A fantastic show that we the fans will make sure sees a 2nd season and beyond!

  26. Martin

How on earth would one cancel such an amazing show? Its so hard to find good stuff to watch on TV nowadays and when something this good comes along it's dumped! Shame on NBC.
