The rousing sounds of some of Ireland’s top musicians will echo across London in celebration of the Olympic Games.
Galway group The Saw Doctors, Texan folkabilly singer Nanci Griffith and Dublin rockers Aslan as just some of the acts that will be performing at The London Irish Village 2012, which is being billed as this year’s mini Feis.
The festival, organised by music promoter Vince Power and sponsored by The Irish Post, is a 16-day celebration of Irish music and culture running from July 27 to August 12.
Thanks in no small part to its vibrant and hugely diverse music scene, Ireland has long held a reputation as one of the world’s great party towns and, for these two weeks the inimitable sound of Ireland arrives in ondon for what is sure to be one of the must-see festivals of the summer.
Other acts already signed up to perform include Derry punk band The Undertones and Scottish singer-songwriter Eddi Reader.
And all these acts, with many more to be announced over the coming weeks, will take the stage at music venue Under the Bridge in West London.
“You don’t have to be Irish to participate,” London Irish Village curator and revered music industry mogul Vince Power said. “I’ve always had a long history of booking Irish acts in Britain and I’m really happy to be involved in the London Irish Village – it’s our mini Feis this year during the Games”.
Expect a heady mix of quality music, traditional Irish food and drink, and great company.
